Another Shooting

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of this, let me start with a bit of personal biography. I’m a gun guy. I’ve been a gun guy since I was born, simply because my dad was a hunter and fisherman. I was raised around guns all my life. Shotguns, rifles and handguns were simply part of our home. It was as normal to me as a toothbrush.

Growing up I learned to shoot and to hunt. I was a much better shot than I was a hunter, but I got better. As the years have gone by, many of you know that I became the silent partner in a weapons training firm. We’ve taught everything from the basics of just getting your concealed carry license, to training police, SWAT, highway patrols, body guards, etc.  Yeah, I’m a gun guy.

Yet in a way I wish they were never invented. I wish humanity had evolved or had been gifted from God the morality and humanity to never have the need for such things.  But unfortunately, that’s not the world we live in. Willie Sutton the bank robber was supposedly asked “why do you rob banks?” in which her replied, “because that’s where the money is.”  When people ask me “why do you carry a gun” I reply “because bad guys do”. It’s really that simple.

Mutant, leftist anti-gun people disagreed with the NRA when they said that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Yet look at what the police departments send when there’s an active shooter. Yes folks, you’ll see men with guns. Lots of them. Angry looking sinister black rifles. Why? Because it is simply true. If you have a lunatic with a gun shooting people, you’re only way to stop him is to overwhelm him with firepower. Offering to share a latte and talking it out, doesn’t tend to work.

Okay, so you all know the deal, I’m a pro gun person. I’m also a really basic dude. It’s not terribly complicated. If I know bad guys often have guns ( they do) doesn’t it make sense that I should be at minimum, able to have at least the same firepower that he might have? It makes sense to me.

You’ve read over and over in these very letters that  “safe zones” and “gun free” zones are nothing more than hunting preserves for the mentally ill. If you’re mentally deranged, or high on SSRI anti-depressants and you hear a voice in your head suggesting that you should go kill a bunch of people and get your 3 days of TV fame, would you 1) attempt to take over a police station, 2) attempt to take over a marine barracks or 3) go to a school or some other institute of silliness, knowing you’re going to be the only person there with a gun, and no one’s going to shoot back?

If  you picked 3, you’re probably not a bleeding heart liberal. You actually used logic to figure out that the lunatic would pick the gun free zone for maximum damage. Congrats.  So, let me ask a basic Bob Caveman question. Are guns allowed on school property? Answer: no. Did someone bring guns to that high school and kill people? Answer: yes. Do gun free zones work to ward off mass murderers? Answer: no.

So easy a liberal should be able to figure it out. But they can’t. There’s a level of brain damage there that I cannot fathom. They will scream that we need more “gun control” or some other such ridiculousness. Folks, listen up. Gun control will not work. Go ahead and make them illegal. Shootings will not only ‘not stop” they’ll go up. Are drugs illegal?  Yes. Has it stopped America from having a herion/opiod problem? No.

Heroin, Fentanyl, etc are illegal in every state. Yet the CDC says 115 people a day die in the US from opioid’s. So much for laws stopping things, eh?  Same thing with these school shootings. It’s illegal to have a gun anywhere near a school. I guess deranged lunatics don’t much read those signs.

In fact, just so I can enjoy the sound of more liberals heads exploding, the number one safest place you can ever be on any given Saturday in the US, is at one of the thousands of gun shows across the nation. Yes folks, in a giant room, surrounded by thousands of guns and people that like them. There has never been a mass shooting. Ever. You are infinitely safer sending your child to a gun show in anytown USA, than your local high school. Think about that for a while.

Now, what about this particular event in Florida? Well, I’ve got problems with it. Are there real dead people? You bet. Did Cruz shoot people? I think he did. Was he alone? Maybe, but I don’t think so. Was he “put up to it?” I have no question.

When I think of the perfect patsy, I can’t come up with one better than this Cruz kid. Thee cops have been out to his house 37 times? The FBI was told he’s a loose cannon? The other kids in the school said they would expect something like this out of him? And then like magic, he does it?  Uhm, excuse me.

There’s a lot of problems with this story. The Media quickly jumped in to say he was involved in a right wing militia out of Tallahassee. But law enforcement says, no, there’s no connection. There’s students that claimed there was ‘at least three” shooters. We have hints that he was very depressed and possibly on psychotropic drugs. There’s proof of an emergency response drill happening in a nearby town. Then there was the “drill announcement”.

This is from the Miami Herald:

When the fire alarm rang near the end of the school day on Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, teacher Ernest Rospierski assumed it was a “code red” drill.

Earlier that day at a staff meeting, teachers had been told there would soon be a “code red” or “lockdown” drill — in which teachers and students practice their response to an immediate threat — but they hadn’t been told the date.

Really? Active shooter drills scheduled on the same time frame that this supposed shooter just happens to go off? But it’s so much more than that. I’m not saying I have the answers, what I’m saying is that there’s more to this story than meets the eye. I think this was “allowed” to happen, by people with agendas.

But there is a bottom line. That bottom line is this: the US has somewhere north of 400 million guns in it. No amount of gun control is going stop a deranged person from getting one, and using it to commit atrocities if they’re so inclined. They’ve used trucks, cars, you name it.  The ONLY thing that’s going to keep more of this crap from happening is making sure that schools are ARMED. Yes that means teachers and security.

Gun Free zones and “safe zones” are NOT the answer. That’s nothing more than hanging a big sign out that says “Come here and shoot people, no one will shoot back!”.  That has to change. The deranged have to know that if they try and pull this sort of thing, that well armed and trained people are indeed going to shoot back and kill them.  I wish it wasn’t so. But being ‘in” the gun business, I know it’s the only way.

The Market:

Guess what kind of records we’re soon to break? Well it seems we’ll be breaking the all time stock “buy back” records soon. More companies have announced buy back than any time in the past 5 years. So much for all that tax money going into new plants and equipment, eh?

Anyway, we had our 10% dip and the algo-bots have been very quick to buy this back up. Even the most bullish of talking head analysts are a bit shy talking about if this is normal or not. Well, I can ease their fears, there’s nothing normal about this market.

Yet it’s the tale of two cities. On one hand you have the market’s relentless march higher. Yet on the other we have retail stores closing, and the middle class getting shut out of housing because it’s too expensive. Not to mention the “behind the curtains” items that make you go Hmmm?  For instance, FRED, the arm of the Federal Reserve that prints all those lovely charts about economic issues, came out Friday and “discontinued” the charting of interbank lending. Why did they do that?

Could it be that bank to bank lending was so ugly that they figure they’d best not publish it any more? Yeah, I think that’s it. It had plunged for years and was at lows not seen in many years. So, why aren’t banks lending to each other if things are so rosy?  I think you can guess.

This is still a manipulated market of Central bank money and stock buy backs. In a way, the stock market is now essential to our Homeland security. Because if this market were to implode, there’s so many things connected to it at this point, the fall out would be much worse than the 08/09 debacle. We’re in worse shape now than we were then.

But you know the old sayings. You have to be in it to win it, and as long as the market wants to keep moving up, it’s wise to hop on the train and take the ride. However, judging when to step off, is a very tough game. For instance, we had bought some AAPL a few days back at 163.47. As the market was rising, we sold half the position, took nice profits,  and left the other half ride. Then on Friday, I figured that this was simply too much too soon, and in front of a 3 day weekend no less. So, I sold the balance of the position. I filled out at 174.47. Not bad for a few days.

Likewise the DIA’s. Same thing. In it at 244.81, we sold half the position on a good rise, and let the rest continue. Friday we pulled the plug on the balance of that, filling out at 253.51. Again, nice money in a short period of time.

As we speak the only short term position we have on is the SPY. We bought into that at 271.68 and on Friday it closed the day at 273.11. I figured I wanted to hold “something” over the weekend, but not the ones that had giant profits in them, just in case we came in Tuesday to a nasty market drop.

I thought that Friday was going to be something of a pause day, if not outright red. Well we almost got there. After being up over 100 points at one time,  the DOW closed up just 19 and the S&P eeked out only a point. When they come in Tuesday, are they going to boost it higher, or are we going to see another pause? I’ll probably get this wrong but I think we might pause out or even put in a slightly red day.  If they goose this higher, we’ll have to enter some more positions, but for now I’m okay just baby sitting my SPY and letting the market tell us what’s next.

Have a great day tomorrow if you’re off to enjoy it! Remember the market is closed Monday for Presidents day!
