Hello everyone, welcome back from your weekend.

Okay, on Friday the world was ending, the market was crashing and all manner of hell was breaking loose. Or so it seemed anyway.

What To Do?

I tend to think there’s an “event” coming that will shake up the world and change a lot of our economic foundation. I’ve laid out a mess of these possible events and some of the likely outcomes of them. Things like China being added to the SDR’s, some form of gold backing to those SDR’s and eventually to the Chinese Yuan itself. The probable loss of “Reserve status” for the US dollar, and a global “reset” where nations literally revalue their currencies and debt levels.

Well this is interesting....

Overnight the first odd thing that happened was that a ton of Bloomberg's trading platforms went dark.  But as that glitch was playing out, over in China the regulators there really shook up global markets.

The gist of what happened is this... Regulators in China's markets announced two things. One was that they were going to get tougher about people using the shadow banking system  to finance stock buying. That seemed bad enough, but there was more...evidently the apparatus to short Chinese stocks wasn't that well developed. Well, it is now and they expanded the amount of stocks that are eligible to be shorted.

Mornin' everyone, it is already an interesting day.

Early this morning the futures were pretty green. But they took a nose dive on word that the Greeks had indeed gone to the IMF to ask for a delay in their payment schedule which was denied. From that moment on, the futures have been pretty red.

It is indeed earnings season and the earnings keep coming.  Last night it was sort of funny, Netflix announced earnings that actually missed by a mile, but because their subscriber base grew, they were up  60 dollars per share. Go figure.

So it's tax day. I won't even start to tell you how much I don't like where my tax dollars go....

Yesterday the market pulled off a win, closing nice and green. This morning the futures are nice and green and when I first saw them at about 6 am, I figured someone had come out with some good news. Well, in a much too common twist, most of the news has been negative. Yet indeed the DOW is up 50 and the S&P is up about 7 in the futures market.

Morning all, welcome to Tuesday...

Yesterday was indeed weaker in the final hours than I thought they'd let it get. So again, let's review something here so we're clear...

The market is just a stone toss away from "all-time" highs. It is my contention that those highs will not be surpassed easily, if at all. Yes read that again, I think the all-time highs might be a top.  At the very least, I think they'll be very hard to get past.  That said however, I did and still do think they might at least try a few times to attack those highs and "see" how stiff the resistance is.

Good morning all, I hope you had a tremendous weekend. I have to tell you that mine was really wonderful.  On Friday and Saturday the wife and I spent time with some friends from out of state that we hadn't seen in two years and it was really a great time. Then to follow that up with a perfect Sunday, it was really...a remarkable weekend. I wish it didn't have to end.

IMPORTANT NOTE>

Before we get to the meat and potatoes of today’s economic conversation, I feel obligated at this point to make a couple remarks concerning e-mail’s I’ve received from several people concerning Phil’s Gang.  As you all know I merged with them back in September, but have recently separated myself from them. It was a mutual agreement. I won’t get into the nitty-gritty of the how’s and why’s, let’s just say there was a management change there and we both agreed that it would be best for all if we just parted ways. No harm, no foul.

Good morning all, we've made it to Friday and not a day too soon.

Okay, so they did it. After trying for two weeks to get over the March 30 "day high", they pulled it off yesterday afternoon. The key level for them to surpass was 2086 and yesterday the S&P closed at 2091.

Now all they have to do is "hold it" and it's a pretty good guess we'll be 2108 which was the March 20 high. If they get past that...then it will be challenge time at the March 2 market high. (2117)

The End

Pretty harsh words they are…”the end”.  It usually means you’ve finished the movie or finished the book. But it also means you’ve finished “something” and in our case the something is the great Nixonian error of “let it be”  fiat money.  The end of that particular experiment is indeed nearing its end.

One of the issues that a person like myself has is that because we are not “widely” known, my voice has little sway over public opinion. If you’re a TV star, or movie star, or basket ball player for the Heat, anything you say will be followed by a tremendous amount of people “backing you up”.  The most obvious examples of that are fashion trends. When a few Hollywood “A” lister’s started wearing “ugg” boots for example, there was such a public rush for them, the company “ran out” and had to increase production by over 400% to keep up with demand.
