12.31.2014 Happy New Year! Bookmark

Sure it's a bit early considering I'm writing this in the morning and the new year won't start for some hours...but I don't plan on being here much this afternoon, so I figured I'd take the time to say it now. I really do wish you all the best in the new year.

Yes the new year is going to bring challenges. But there's always been challenging times, and as long as you stay focused on your family and friends, and do the best you can, you'll be fine.  So with that in mind, I want you all to celebrate the new years arrival as you see fit. If that means going out and partying, well good for you, just be safe. If it means going to bed by 10 because it's just another day, I get that too. Either way, enjoy it...it's a Holiday!

Morning all, welcome to the last day of 2014.

Maybe it's just me, but this year went by like a shot. Maybe it's because I'm getting older that time seems to be speeding up, but my goodness it seems like it was August just a few days ago, and no....it's already New Years Eve. How'd that happen??

I don't know, but wow...at this rate it will be 2016 by next month!

12.30.2014 Consumer Confidence Misses Bookmark

I don't put much faith in any of the more goofy economic reports, especially the "consumer confidence" report. Talk about something they can make up out of thin air!  But I find it almost ironically funny that today the Consumer confidence number missed the estimates, despite the fact that Gasoline is selling for 2.29  and the stock market is at all time highs

Hello everyone, welcome to a new day.

Yesterday the DOW failed to put in it's 8th straight green session. The S&P however did manage to do that. That means we're obviously running on fumes here.

Year end trading is always a choppy sloppy mess. Why? Well you have some folks that look at their year and figure maybe they'd like to lock their gains in. Then of course you have some folks that decide they'll take the tax loss on a few of their "dogs" and they sell for the tax credit.  That's opposed by those who figure that if they just wait until January, they don't have to face the tax man for over 14 months. So we generally see the market grind higher in the last week of the year, but inside the indexes there is often a lot of whippy action.

12.29.2014 Oh No, Greece Again Bookmark

Don't they know the world is trying to celebrate some Holidays? Evidently not as once again the Greeks couldn't elect a majority president, tossing the country into what will be a "snap" election in January. Meanwhile a handful of their major banks are terribly on the rocks, and that has pulled most of the European markets lower.

Good morning everyone, welcome to the last week of 2014.  I hope you're enjoying yourselves during this Holiday period.

Down here in SouthWest Florida, you have no choice but to notice all the "visiting families". It is very common for families from up north to come down and visit their parents and grand parents who have moved to the area for the weather. So our roads are choked, the stores packed, the bars and restaurants loaded. While it puts a bit of a strain on those of us who live here, at least it's all for a good cause. Families should get together for the Holidays.

Somebody Is Wrong

Considering that we’re “smack-dab” in the middle of the Holiday season, I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to sound off on some of the really deep issues that we’re going to need to discuss this year. For now everyone should be enjoying their Holiday season, sharing good times with family and friends, and doing their best to remember the good things in their lives.

That said however, the fact is that “someone” is wrong about things. Either the cheer leading, rah-rah TV people are right and the economy is healing, things are getting better and the nation is about to see a new 10 year expansion….or they’re wrong and the so called doom and gloomers are right. They both can’t be.

The jolly old fat guy made it Wall Street, as he's sprinkled the gift of higher stock prices around the markets. As of today we're working on 6 days in a row of "up" and our futures indicate that we're going to shoot for 7. While 7 days in a row of "up" isn't a record by any means, it is on the leading edge of being "long in the tooth". A pull back would not be out of the ordinary.

Good morning all, welcome back from the Christmas Holiday!

I hope Santa was good to all of you. It always amazes me how that chubby old guy seems to know exactly what I want every year. How's he do that?

In any event, we had a really wonderful day, and it's always a good time when the family is together. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

12.24.2014 Merry Christmas! Bookmark

Merry Christmas everyone!  There's no bogus political correctness here at IY. If you're a Christian you're celebrating Christmas, not "the Holidays". If you're of another faith, fine, I hope you are or have already celebrated your particular "special day".  All we preach about is people caring about each other, enjoying sharing their time with them, and taking the time to be thankful for all you have.  It's hard to argue against that.
