First off, I'm sorry about yesterday. But this is the kind of "not quite normal" I"m talking about. The town alerted us that they'd be shutting the power down so they could fix two lift stations. They said it would go down at 10 and last "maybe " 3 hours.

Good morning all, welcome back from your weekend. I hope it was a pleasant one for you all. I've written enough Hurricane news for now, so let me just say all is getting better day by day.  The ONLY fly in the ointment I see right now is that today at 10 am, they're going to turn off the power for about 3 hours, as they have to replace a couple "sewer lift stations" in our area.

But at least it's scheduled, not some "out of the blue"  power outtage.

The Storm

Hello everyone, I've made it through the storm.  I'm sorry about not putting out a letter on Sunday or Wednesday, but as you all know, Hurricane Irma made a visit to our part of Florida and well, things just took a bit of time to get 'normal".

For some in Florida, normal won't be for two years. For others like me, normal started showing up Thursday when the power came on. So, while I don't want to bore you with all the gory details, let me give you the Readers Digest version of things.

Good morning all, welcome to Friday.

The last 12 hours has been driving us nuts down here. Both the power and our cable systems have been up and down like a yo yo as the feeder bands from Hermine continue to beat on us. I appreciate all the email I got wishing us well, and truth be told...while this has been pretty bad, in the big picture we got lucky here. Just 40 - 50 miles north of us, those poor folks really got walloped

Why Do We "Prep?" And The Market Report Bookmark

General Commentary...

Why Do I Mention Soft Prepping?

One of the questions I get every once in a while from folks is 1) why do you talk about soft prepping so much and 2) what makes you think you're an expert on the topic?  Hey, they're good questions, so let's get to it.

One of the issues with writing a letter such as mine is simply trying to balance out the financial "stuff" with other real world advice, tips, instruction, etc.  If I stay on the financials too long, I'll get push back from folks that want to learn some other things. If I harp on something like "prepping" too long, I get push back from the financial folks. In 20 years of doing this, I don't know that I ever got the balance right. Oh well, I try.
