“Business is a Boomin”

Before we start our conversation today, I want to pass along a little tip that many of you might not know exists.  Do you do any shopping at Walmart? We do. While we visit our local farm market for our meats and veggies, we do the Walmart thing for paper products, canned goods, etc.  Well, they have a pretty neat thing called a savings catcher. It won’t make you rich, but it’s an interesting idea.

If you go to savingscatcher.walmart.com you can sign up for their free service. What the jist of it is; is this…. Any time you go to WMT and buy something, you take your receipt and at the bottom of it is a  TC# right above the bar code. You enter that into the savings catcher and the date of the receipt.  WMT then compares the items you bought to other stores in the area and if anything you bought could be found for less somewhere else, they give you the difference. You can load it on a gift card, etc.  It’s a neat function. While on say grocery items you might only get back a buck, or two…if you buy say electronics, sporting goods, etc, it can add up. Our gift card is up to 29 dollars, and that’s ONLY on canned goods and paper products since October. When it gets to 50, I’m going to buy some Ammo.  Check it out.

Is Paris Burning?

I like to study history, because quite often what we are told happened, is quite different from what really did happen.  While it is attributed to just about every world leader of recent times, the adage “history is written by the winners” goes back millennium, in various twists.  I’ve seen it as “History is written by those who have hanged hero’s”  and I’ve seen other variants such as  "History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon."

While researching various incidents that occurred during WWII I was given a book called “Is Paris Burning?”  The thrust of the book was that when Hitler realized that France was going to be liberated, he instructed the Generals in charge of the French occupation to burn Paris to the ground as his troops evacuated the area. But the main man in charge of that operation had reservations about doing it. It didn’t seem like a humane thing to do, and he continued to put it off. Ultimately he refused to give the order, despite an almost hysterical Hitler demanding it.

Good morning all, and a happy Thursday to you.

Yesterday was one of those inexplicable events that tends to not make a lot of sense. Some really smart people were asking the same question...why was the market soaring with all the so called terror activity going on and the Fed minutes talking even heavier concerning lifting rates in Dec?  You can come up with a bunch of theories but all in all, it did seem a bit outsized and strange.

Good morning all, happy Wednesday to you all.

Yesterday turned into quite a mess during the afternoon. The market was doing what we thought it would do, which is add to the gains we had Monday. But then things went to hell in a handbag when news hit that over in Hamburg, a soccer match was canceled because of "concrete" terror bombing threats. Then all manner of rumors and "quotes" started flying around. The first was that an ambulance packed with explosives had been found. Then they said there was no explosives. People were freaking out that the Paris thing was still in play with different cells in different nations acting out their parts.

Anyone want to make 50 MILLION dollars? Well you can if you can tell Mr. Putin who built and placed the bomb on the airliner that blew up. See, the Russians have announced that it was indeed a home made bomb that blew apart the airliner, and he's.... let's just say, upset.  He has made a universal offer of 50 million for information.

I wish I knew who did it. I'd tell them for free.  Blowing up a couple hundred innocent people on their way home, is so disgustingly vile, so cowardly, that I wouldn't even take reward money for hanging them from lampposts.

Good morning everyone, welcome back from your weekend. As always I hope it was a good one for you all.

Obviously the big news of the weekend was the situation in France. But I have to tell you, and this will sound looney, but there's things about this story that stink. The first big problem I have  is "where's the cell phone video?"  A hundred people at a concert, and shooting starts, yet no one had their cell phone video running, taping the band? Shouldn't the net be full of very blurry videos of people screaming and rushing towards exits?    How is it a cop can shoot a lone person in "nowhere" USA, and it ends up on a You-tube video because someone filmed it, and here we have 125+ killed and there's not a single video on any underground site that I know of?  Hmmm.

Good morning all, we've made it to Friday.  For many of you I'm sure it couldn't have come fast enough!

Yesterday was simply butt ugly. When you look at a chart of the DOW you see that it didn't just fall 254 points. What it did was fall under its 200 day moving average.  It also fell through the 20 day moving average. It even fell below the loose support at 17560.  Decliners outpaced advancers by over 4 to 1.

Good morning everyone, welcome to another day where your head might explode from all the things going on around the world.

First a quick review of yesterday. The day was directionless, bouncing up and down in a fairly tight range. When the final bell rang we'd lost almost 7 S&P points. It was something of a victory for the bulls because on Tuesday the S&P "tested" the lows set on Monday and they held. So seeing yesterday once again remain above the Monday low gave credence to the idea that they were willing to trade sideways for a few days and then try for higher.

Good morning all, and a big shout out for all of you who have served.  When I was growing up the Vietnam war was raging, and I lost two older cousins in that nightmare. A year before I turned 18, the draft was abolished. Thus, I never served in any arm of the services. But I have family members that have indeed not only served but made it their career. I tip my hat to all of you.  Cherish your Veterans day

Hello everyone, welcome to yet another day in a very strange world.

Whether you want to talk about morality, economy, military, race, politics, etc...it is pretty evident that all manner of hell is breaking loose.  I have no idea what happened with the race situation at Missouri, but I know that all it took for protesters to get their way was to threaten "football" and "boom" action was taken. College football is simply big business and if the players say there's a race problem, you can bet they'll be appeased.
