Hello everyone, welcome back from the weekend. I surely hope that it was a good one for you all. Down here in "way too hot" Florida, we enjoyed it as usual. I think the highlight for us this weekend was Friday evening when the wife and I tried a Thai restaurant that we'd never visited, and wouldn't you know...it was the best Thai food we'd ever had. It's always a pleasure when you find something that exceeds your expectations.

Jobs For Who?

On Friday we got the non farm payroll report. Estimates were for a gain of 183,000 jobs. But when the number hit we didn’t print 183K jobs, we printed 271,000 blowing away even the most bullish estimates. Inside the report it was all rainbows and unicorns. We saw the unemployment rate fall to 5%, and we see wages rose an astounding 2.5%.  A better report you simply couldn’t make up!!  In fact that’s true, because they made this one up, and it was the best they could do.

Hello everyone, we've made it to Friday, which just happens to be "jobs" day.

As you can imagine, all the financial outlets are focused like a laser on this report as they all feel it will influence the Fed's decision about rates. So I'm sort of confused here. Am I supposed to be cheering a weak number so that we have zero rates for ever, or am I supposed to cheer the idea of more people actually getting  job??

Hey everyone, welcome to Thursday.

So yesterday they pouted a bit because Yellen was laying out the reasons she needs to "start normalizing rates".  But then overnight the economic news was horrible enough that stocks around the globe went from moderate red, to bright green.

Does that make sense? It does in this twisted world.

Migrants, Snowden, and Sides

One of the themes I’ve been pounding for a couple years now is that the world is choosing sides. On one side is the China/Russia connection and on the other side is the US/UK connection. As nations around the world have tired of US policy, they see something of a saving grace in unconventional ways.

If you look at the “shift” in attitudes over the past 4 years you see something remarkable happening. When the US set up the coup in the Ukraine, and then blamed it on the Russians, they followed through with dozens of financial sanctions against Russia. The Europeans went along with the sanctions, despite it being financial suicide for them. Consider Germany; they had millions in trade deals with Russia that had to be put on hold. They lost multiple millions in revenues. Same with Norway, France, etc.

Hello all, welcome to Wednesday.

Yesterday was another continuation of the melt up that's been raging for a month. This morning the futures are....green again. Go figure. We have the DOW up 50, the S&P up 4.

Hello everyone, welcome to 1999.  It must be 1999 right? It has to be. In 1999 companies with nothing more than a one page business plan were gaining 20 and 30 dollars per share per day. It didn't matter that there was absolutely no way for them to make money, it was a "new paradigm".

Well it must be a "Newer new paradigm" this year. Yesterday as the DOW was up 150 points at 3 pm, and the S&P had cracked above 2100 for the first time in months, the Atlanta FED's put out their 4th quarter GDP estimate. The LOWERED it from 2.4% to 1.9%.   Then we learned that 35% of all millennials in California live with their parents.

Good morning everyone, welcome back from the weekend. Like always I hope it was a great one for you and for those of you with little kids I hope they had a great Halloween. Our weekend was great, we got to see little mermaids and witches and mini policemen and frogs and you name it. Some people get really creative on their costumes and this year was no exception.  Then Sunday we were blessed with bright blue sky and we got in our bike ride and beach walk. I guess that if there was something for me to complain about, it was the temps. It's tough when the calendar says November 1, but the thermometer in our car reads 91. Wow.
