The FREE Investment Newsletter That Really Works!

I promise that this is going to be the last options tutorial for a long time. Each time I think I’m done talking about them, several people will write in with questions about something I’ve mentioned. Last week I mentioned that along with buying call options and put options, the only other sort I’d recommend is the occasional “sale” of an option. So let’s explore that and see how it works.

Naked positions

I’m going to wrap up our two week tutorial session about options. We’ve discussed what they are, how they work, ways to use them, etc. Today we’re going to end with one of the riskier aspects of options trading, called “selling naked”. While it is indeed more risky, meaning you have to really manage that risk, along with the risk comes big rewards. So, let’s get to it...

How they work

The other day I wrote about why using options at times is such a very good thing to do. Cost of entry, the leverage they provide and the speed at which your profit can build are all positives when speaking of using options.

But I also said that for most people, the most simple of uses is the best idea. That’s the simple Call option if you think a stock is going to go up, or a put option if you think that it will be heading lower. With just those two, you can play the upside and downside of virtually any stock.

What are the options?

Last week we closed out some call option positions that rewarded us quite smartly. We had options on the SPY which is the proxy for the S&P 500, and we bought them in the 10’s and sold them in the 30’s.

We had calls on the DIA’s, which is the Proxy ETF for the DOW 30, and we were in them in the 5’s and out at the 17 level. They were very nice gains, and it evidently encouraged a lot of our readers to ask about options. What are they, how do they work?  etc.  So, I’m going to do a little refresher here about options, and why we like to use them at times.

Who's Punking Who?

This isn't a topic that can be settled in a single newsletter. So, let's just consider it to be the start of a longer term dialog that we have going forward.

So, here's the question. What's up with this Trump guy anyway? I don't ask that to sound snarky, or start arguments. I ask it because people are really polarized in their view of this guy.

So, It’s 2018 Now

It’s Monday morning. Right this moment, things don’t feel a lot different than yesterday morning and yet the calendar tells me that it is a “new year”.  Since I didn’t go out and party on New Years Eve, I’m not terribly tired nor hung over. That’s a blessing.  So, what does this thing called 2018 have in store for us?

A lot I imagine.

Humbled

At the bottom of every letter, there’s a “donate” button. I put it there about a year ago, because we had folks over the years that tell us “we don’t do any investing, but I like reading your letters, is there any way I can toss you a few bucks?”

Well this week I got notice of a donation, and figured it had to be a mistake. I’m not talking thousands, but it was quite large, and I contacted the donor. I said thank you for the donation, but surely you made a mistake. He said there was no mistake, and that he has enjoyed our letters and wanted to help keep them coming.  But what got me all emotional was when he said he forwards my letters to his daughters, because he thinks some of them are important enough that he wants them to read it.

Home Invasion

I have to change gears a bit today, and respond to a couple e-mails I got over the last several months. While I answered them individually, I think it’s time I present the concepts to everyone.. Here’s the back story:

When I stumble onto something that someone else has written, and I think it’s worthy of consideration, I gladly reprint it and give credit to the author. Below, we have Doug Casey talking about the few Fed head, and what could be coming at us in the next couple years. I think it’s a decent article, and worth the read.

You Want More?

The other day I made mention of the fact that often I “know things” but I’m a bit hesitant to lay them out. Most of you probably thought old Bob was drinking too much and wanted to make believe he was a big shot. No, it’s none of that. What it is, is simply a desire not to wake up dead.

What Do I know?

The other day I published a story, along with a link that would take you to a page where you could see one of the biggest heists of all time. It’s the story of how Leader Technologies created the code that allowed for things like the social media platforms to exist. And yet the technology was stolen.
