September Slam?

NOTE>> Today is the 15th anniversary of 9/11.  There will be solemn observances of this event going on all across America. By all means, take your moments to pay homage to the thousands of people who were killed, and the tens of thousands that mourn the loss of their loved ones. The criminals will be outted one day...but for today, just pray for those in pain.

Good morning everyone, it's Friday, it's Yellen day, it's...."lets get this week over" day.

Last evening I stopped by the computer to check out the latest back and forth between Trump and Hillary. But before I could even get there, I catch this headline.....

What’s coming?

Every day there’s some new, strange situation for us to chew on. Make NO mistake folks, this election is the single biggest election of our lives. How can I say that? Easy. Look at the rabid way they’re trying to push Hillary into the White house. Look at the way they’re burying the Email scandal, and the Clinton Foundation scandal. Look at the way they’re vilifying Trump for every word the man says. This is out and out war like we’ve never seen.

The End

I was supposed to do a long winded piece concerning which candidate would be better for the US economy. That’s going to have to wait, however... I had to laugh out loud the other day listening to Hillary talk about the economy. Most parts of her speech was plagiarized from Trumps speech on the economy back on Monday. All of a sudden she’s against TTP. All of a sudden she wants “fair” trade deals. All of a sudden she’s going to do all the infrastructure work Trump talked about.

My question is... having been in Government in one form or another for 40 years...why didn’t shy try any of that before? Now we’re supposed to believe she saw the light and “now” it’s time for her to lead the path to prosperity? Give me a break, please.

Almost Impossible

No one wants to read ( or write) about the election every few days, however there’s no question that the person that inherits the White House will have a profound effect on our economy. Likewise it’s almost impossible to not hear something about Trump or Hillary on every news cast. So we need to look at things from the view of “Who’s going to make the economy better or worse?”

Conventions

We just wrapped up the Republican Conventions and it ended with a speech by Donald Trump. The left has gone apoplectic over the things that were said, and ended up calling it “dark” and “doom and gloom”. It was nothing of the sort.

Tom Brokaw had this to say...“Others looking in are going to see someone they will only think as a demagogue of some kind.” George Stephanopoulos, a former Democratic operative, echoed his colleague Chuck Todd: “He [Trump] painted a dark picture of where America stands today.” For emphasis, Stephanopoulos repeated, “And Martha Raddatz, a pretty dark speech.” Chuck Todd labeled, “I thought it was an extraordinarily dark speech.” Republican operative Nicolle Wallace lamented, “We are now represented as a party by a man who believes in protectionism, isolationism and nativism.”

Got Popcorn?

There’s some things wherein I’m just as mainstream as it gets. I love nothing more than popping up a big old bowl of organic medium white popcorn, and settling down in my recliner for a good movie.  (Sidenote>> the whirly pop popcorn maker is my go to favorite way to make the stuff. )  Well, if you like drama, suspense and a really thick plot line, this upcoming election season should be a blockbuster.

Think about the incredible amount of things that have converged on us for 2016.  First of course is the Trump/Hillary situation which we’ll get to in a bit. But besides that carnival we have a plethora of incredible things going on globally.  First let’s talk about Venezuela. The US news outlets don’t do a very good job of showing the abject horror of what’s happening down there, because frankly they adore the Socialist doctrine and don’t want to show US millennial’s that “hey, this is the outcome of a socialist society”

Good morning all, welcome back from your Holiday.  I trust that you were smart enough not to go back for seconds (Like I did) so that you didn't have the dreaded "after dinner" wobbles.  I sure did, and enjoyed every minute of it. How can you not go in for "just a little more?"  I haven't the will power. The delicious aroma's, the wonderful tastes always trump my better sense.  Maybe it's a good thing that Thanksgiving only happens once a year, or I'd explode.

“Business is a Boomin”

Before we start our conversation today, I want to pass along a little tip that many of you might not know exists.  Do you do any shopping at Walmart? We do. While we visit our local farm market for our meats and veggies, we do the Walmart thing for paper products, canned goods, etc.  Well, they have a pretty neat thing called a savings catcher. It won’t make you rich, but it’s an interesting idea.

If you go to savingscatcher.walmart.com you can sign up for their free service. What the jist of it is; is this…. Any time you go to WMT and buy something, you take your receipt and at the bottom of it is a  TC# right above the bar code. You enter that into the savings catcher and the date of the receipt.  WMT then compares the items you bought to other stores in the area and if anything you bought could be found for less somewhere else, they give you the difference. You can load it on a gift card, etc.  It’s a neat function. While on say grocery items you might only get back a buck, or two…if you buy say electronics, sporting goods, etc, it can add up. Our gift card is up to 29 dollars, and that’s ONLY on canned goods and paper products since October. When it gets to 50, I’m going to buy some Ammo.  Check it out.

Is Paris Burning?

I like to study history, because quite often what we are told happened, is quite different from what really did happen.  While it is attributed to just about every world leader of recent times, the adage “history is written by the winners” goes back millennium, in various twists.  I’ve seen it as “History is written by those who have hanged hero’s”  and I’ve seen other variants such as  "History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon."

While researching various incidents that occurred during WWII I was given a book called “Is Paris Burning?”  The thrust of the book was that when Hitler realized that France was going to be liberated, he instructed the Generals in charge of the French occupation to burn Paris to the ground as his troops evacuated the area. But the main man in charge of that operation had reservations about doing it. It didn’t seem like a humane thing to do, and he continued to put it off. Ultimately he refused to give the order, despite an almost hysterical Hitler demanding it.
