New Years Eve. It's here.

Okay, first off let me ask you all if you had a good weekend. I have a feeling there was an awful lot of very busy or traveling people this weekend, as everyone is hunkered down with family and friends. In general terms, because my email address has been online for over 25 years, I can expect to get anywhere from 1000 to 3000 spam emails a day.

Yesterday I got 120.  Even the spammers are busy!

Today's free investment newsletter is about the Holiday Season and how we like to spend it. Then in the Market commentary, we talk about the wild ride in market land, and if it has legs into the New Year.  I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed penning it.

Give it a read, hopefully it will boost your spirits!

Did you see it? Yesterday the market had tried to rally earlier in the session but it faded out. It didn't have much volume, and Then we rolled over, and fell. And fell. And fell. The DOW didn't stop falling until it was down 611.

At about 2:20 it got a shot of adrenaline and was down just 360.  It hovered around there bouncing up and down in 40 point swings.

Now for the test.

You all probably know about yesterday. The single biggest point gain ever. According to some, it was because a lot of pension funds need to  rebalance , and the numbers suggest they needed to buy up about 60 billion in stocks before year end.

That's plausible, but I also feel that the algo bots fed off the buying and sort of took over, rampantly buying up baskets of stocks.

Holiday Thoughts

How was your Christmas? I truly pray it was a wonderful time for you and your friends and family. Ours was quite terrific, thank you.

I know, I know, I’m supposed to talk about the markets and all the madness going on there. Well the fact is, we have another full year of market madness coming at us, and there will be ample time to dissect all of that.

I had a nice chat with one of my paid subscription members today. He too looks after a 90+ year old mom, and he told me that because I often mention about the struggles of doing that with my Mom, he feels like he knows me as a friend. It’s the highest compliment I can get actually.

Good morning all, welcome back from your Christmas Holiday. I pray it was a wonderful event for all of you.

With no little kids in our home any more, there was none of that "get up dad, Santa came!"  stuff at 5 am. No, it was an easy going morning. By the time we got everyone gathered together  it was almost 9 am. We exchanged our gifts, and then moved on with our day.

Good morning everyone, welcome back from your weekend. I hope it was a wonderful event, and not a harried disaster of running from store to store!

Hello Everyone!

Today in the newsletter,  I am not writing about shut downs, tariffs, left/right bickering, or anything else. I'm simply wishing you a wonderful Christmas holiday and giving some examples of how we like to spend our day. I truly do hope your Christmas is a wonderful event for you, and you all get to spend it with your loved ones.

God bless!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

There it is, in all its simplicity. It’s not “Happy Holidays” in my home, it’s Merry Christmas. It’s the day that umpteen million people celebrate the birth of one Jesus Christ.

I’m not going to write about the market today. I’m not writing about the shut down, the intense bickering between the left and the right, the tariffs, the market plunge or opioid addictions. No, today is pretty short and sweet.

Good morning folks, welcome to the Winter Solstice.  Today will be the shortest amount of sunshine and the longest period of darkness for the entire year. That's the bad news.
