Hello everyone, welcome to Thursday.

So you all know what took place yesterday. Powell cut by a quarter point, and slipped in the message that they're probably going to have to expand their balance sheet sooner than they thought. (QE coming)

Good morning all, welcome to another week in wacky land. I hope yours was excellent as usual?  Well, mine was for a while, then sort of deteriorated. This is what I wrote last night to Horizons subscribers:

Saturday I was pressed for time, because the wife and I were going to a big time Gala event for the Fred Lang Foundation. They help people with mental disabilities, suicide prevention, depression, etc.

Negative

Here’s something you don’t hear about on your 6 pm news. The amount of sovereign debt trading with a negative yield hits an all- time high. Yes folks, negative interest rates.

*FRENCH 10-YEAR BOND YIELD FALLS TO 0% FOR THE FIRST TIME
*SWEDISH 10-YEAR BOND YIELD FALLS TO 0% FOR FIRST TIME
*AUSTRIAN 10-YEAR BOND YIELD FALLS BELOW 0% FOR FIRST TIME

Are you seeing a trend here? Good, because whether you want to believe it or not, we’re going to be experiencing negative interest rates here too. It’s simply a matter of time.

Good morning all, welcome to the first day of the FOMC meeting, which is also known as Tuesday.

Yesterday the market was hugging the flat line for hours, which made perfect sense. Why did that make sense? Well, we had broken out over resistance, and it is usual and common to simply pause and catch its breath.

That Time Of Year

A few weeks ago,  for a day, our entire region was out of Verizon telephone service. A few texts would dribble out now and then, but no talk service was available from Tampa all the way to Fort Myers.

Verizon was down. For some it was an inconvenience. For others it was truly a life and death matter. Why? Because more people today have cell phone service than hard lines at their homes. With Verizon down, no one on their network could call 911.  People with severe medical problems were in a panic.

Good morning everyone, welcome back from what I hope was a great weekend for you all. Down here in sunny Florida, we had our yearly "sand sculpture" contest on Siesta beach.  This is an international competition, and sculptors from around the world come to Sarasota to create the most incredible sand sculptures you've ever seen. Starting on about Thursday the artists get their particular space, and begin mounding up the sand and preparing. Then by Friday they're completely absorbed in sculpting. The end results are shown on Saturday and Sunday with a winner finally declared.

The Yellen Flip

There’s a lot of folks that actually think the Federal Reserve is somehow a Federal Agency. They are not. There are a lot of folks that think we need this non-elected band of criminal bankers.  We don’t.  There are even people that think the United States always had a central bank.  It didn’t.  But we’ve been stuck with one since 1913.

For any of you who would truly like to understand how the Federal Reserve came to be, the best place to start is a book called “The Creature from Jekyll Island”.  I highly recommend it.
