Emotions

This is a tough letter to pen. You’ll understand why in a few moments.

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. Each year that rolls around, I explain why. The easy reason is that it’s a time for friends and families to get together. We certainly don’t do enough of that, and I’m guilty too.

But for me the real reason Thanksgiving is special, isn’t JUST because we get to see family we haven’t seen all year, or that there’s a cornucopia of tremendous food in the kitchen, or that we get “a day off.” No, for me the wonder of the day is that we have a Holiday for giving thanks. This is something, many of us are woefully inadequate at.

I am guilty as charged. I should be on my knees every single day saying thanks for all the good things that there’s been in my life. Yet life gets in the way. People get sick, we get too busy, we get caught up in the rat race. And then, instead of taking a breather and saying a prayer of thanks for all the good we have, we whine and complain. There’s “never enough” whether it’s time or money or love or health, or what have you.

So I am grateful that Mr. Abe Lincoln decided that we needed a National day of Thanksgiving. See, everyone learned the story in grade school that in 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Native Americans shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. To this day, kids dress up as Pilgrims and Indians and have school plays about it.

However, it wasn’t standardized across the colonies. In fact, while almost all communities had church services where a “thanksgiving remembered” feast would occur, it wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

Well I’m glad he did so. At least for one solitary day out of the whole year, we are reminded that there’s things to be Thankful for. So, it’s always been my favorite Holiday. We do get to overindulge in great spreads of food, we do get to see family and friends. We do get to take some time and look around and say our own version of “Thank you” for all we do have.

Hello all, first let me start by saying I really blew it yesterday as far as what the market would do. I expected a flat day, and instead we got a 200 point up day. Go figure.

Hello all, welcome back from your weekend. I'm hopeful it was a good one for you all. Ours was pretty good overall, as my wife attended an industry show on Saturday, and I got to do "man stuff" around the house. ( ha)  Sunday was better however, as we got a chance to visit an exotic bird rescue, followed up by some good food and drink in the afternoon. All in all, a decent weekend.

Hello everyone, welcome to the Christmas week.

As always I hope you all had a tremendous weekend. I know for a lot of you it's been hard, considering half the country is socked down by heavy snow and wicked cold. We've been pretty fortunate down here in Florida as we've been enjoying the warmth and sunshine

History is being made today folks. Despite doing all they could to rig the British vote, the people had overwhelmed them and have decided to LEAVE the European Union. This is indeed big news.

Not because it's going to fundamentally change the economics in England as the elitists have suggested would happen; but because the whole European Union "test tube" could be on the verge of unraveling.

The EU was like a pilot program for a one world centrally planned government. They figured if they could cobble 28 different "tribes" together and make it work, they could try the entire world. But it hasn't gone well. Greece, Spain, Italy, and Portugal are broke. England just said "stick it" we're tired of Brussels telling us what we can do. This is indeed a very big step.

Good morning all, welcome to Friday.  It's certainly been an interesting week, and it still isn't "over" so to speak.

Last evening the folks in Scotland voted to say hitched with the UK, which sent ripples of joy through the financial sector. You could see in the action of the overnight futures as they all signaled a big sigh of relief. So, the market has now gotten all it wanted. It got the "considerable time" statement out of Yellen, they got the NO vote out of Scotland, the Iphone is now officially on sale at Apple stores and Ali-babba is launching today in the biggest IPO ever witnessed.
